How can I tell if a memory module is ECC parity RAM or non-ECC non-parity RAM?
Parity memory modules have an extra chip on them to check for errors. Therefore, non-parity memory should have an even number of chips on the module and parity memory should have an odd number. Typically, there will be 8 chips on a non-ECC module and 9 chips on an ECC module.
However, some parity SIMMs can have 12, 18, 24 or 36 chips. Therefore, a sure-fire way to determine of a memory module is parity or non-parity is to divide the number of chips on the module by three. If the number is evenly divisible by 3, it is a parity, or ECC module. If the number of chips is not divisible by three, the module is non-parity, or non-ECC.
Can we remove 'none' option from the dropdown list of screen savers in windows xp....

The thing which you have asked can not be done cause that is the OS default kind of setting and OS never allows to deactivate default behavior.
even you can check in the system/group policies you'll see these settings parameters are absent.

Gaurav...Actually i m able to disable the screen saver tab,or disable other screen savers while setting one...using gpedit.msc....but i want that user can set his screen saver but can not select "none" i.e disable it....

Got your reply back here what i have concluded is that the screesaver tab you have removed using Group policy but tell me one thing that once you disable the screensaver tab then how come you can give the screensaver setting access to the user or better which can be done is to set any common the screensaver for all the user if you do not then in the absence of any default behavior it will disable the screen saver functionality. I hope this will give you some idea what to do and how to do incase does not solve your query then revert back to me

Well Gaurav..i think u don't got me this time...i m saying tht by group policy,either i can disable screensaver tab,in this case tab will be disabled but screensaver would b there tht i hve set,or in second case i can set a common screensaver and user is not able to change that ,in this case the dropdown list of screensaver is deactivated.
wht i actually want is user can change the screen saver but cannot disable it by selecting the "none" option...hope u got it...plz do reply if hve any solution

I suggest that you call Mr. Gaurav to resolve this issue. I feel this can be esolved faster this way. Also which branch are you associated with. I like the fact that you are posting your queries.

Disable Enable Windows vista Balloon Tips
Most of us facing problem about balloon tips in windows vista this is the irritating thing in windows vista and also windows xp.Everyone want windows vista tips to disable balloon tips.As vista balloon tips does not have any useful information. I disable that tips from the first day when I was using windows xp and now in windows vista I also disable it. Here is a tips how to disable balloon tips in windows vista.
Click start and go to run. Type gpedit.msc (this is used to open group policy) and press enter. Now open User configuration, then Administrative template after that start Manu and finally Taskbar.
Now choose remove balloon tips, right click with mouse and open properties.
Now in option enable it and click ok. Close the gpedit and reboot the system.
Congratulation you have disable your awful balloon tips in windows vista.
Gpedit.msc is not available in windows vista home and premium edition’s not to worry we can do the same from registry in windows vista home and premium edition.
Again go to run (windows key + R) and type regedit and press enter.
Expand registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER >> SOFTWARE > Microsoft>> Windows > Current Version>> Explorer > Advanced.
Right click and create new Dword value and give name as EnableBalloonTips.
Give value as 0(zero)
Reboot your Windows Vista. And your work done.

4. Export the Registration subkey.
You can make a backup of the values under the Registration subkey if the new product key does not work. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Right-click the Registration subkey, and then click Export.
b. In the Save in list, select a location to save the registration entries.
c. In the File name box, type a name for the .reg file that you want to export, and then click Save.
Note In steps 4a through 4c, you created a backup of the Registration subkey. You can restore the Registry settings of the Registration subkey by double-clicking the .reg file that you saved in step 4c. The contents of the .reg file are automatically exported to the Registry.
5. Under the Registration subkey, there may be several Globally Unique Identifiers (GUID) that contain a combination of alphanumeric characters. Each GUID is specific to a program that is installed on your computer.
Click a GUID. Then, view the version of Office that is listed in the right pane for the Productname registry entry. After you find the GUID that contains the version of your Office program, follow these steps:
. Right-click the DigitalProductID registry entry, click Delete, and then click Yes.
a. Right-click the ProductID registry entry, click Delete, and then click Yes.
How to Change Product Key of MS-OfficeXP, 2003 and 2007.Many times you might want to change the product key of Office suite installed in your system. It might be because your product key expired and you got a new one or it might be because you installed Office using pirated key and now you want to change the product key with a genuine one.
To change the product key you'll have to uninstall the Office suite from your system and then reinstall it.
But here is a small and simple tutorial which will help you in changing the product key without uninstalling the Office.
Change Office XP Product Key:
1. Open regedit and goto:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration
2. Under "Registration" key, you'll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format:
{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}
3. Select each key and look at "ProductName" key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system "Microsoft Office XP Professional Edition".
4. Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane:
DigitalProductID
ProductID
5. Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.
6. Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That's it.
Change Office 2003 Product Key:
1. Open regedit and goto:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Registration
2. Under "Registration" key, you'll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format:
{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}
3. Select each key and look at "ProductName" key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system e.g. "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003".
4. Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane:

5. Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.

3. Select each key and look at "ProductName" key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2007".
4. Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane:
DigitalProductID
ProductID
5. Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.
6. Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That's it.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
A. Take a backup of "Registration" key before deleting the registry entries from right-side pane, so that in case the new product key doesnt work you can restore the previous key without any problem. To take backup right-click on "Registration" key and select "Export".
B. If you are a x64 bit Windows user, then the key location will be different in registry. Please check following paths:
Office XP:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\10.0
Office 2003:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\11.0
Office 2007:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0
How to Change the Windows XP Product Key.If for some reason you might wanna change you current WinXP CD Key or after you discover your current key is pirated or illegal but you don’t want to reinstall Windows XP to activate your new legal key
Here’s how:
1. Click on Start and then Run.
2. In the text box in the Run window, type regedit and click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program.
3. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder under My Computer and click on the (+) sign next the folder name to expand the folder.
4. Continue to expand folders until you reach the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents registry key.
5.Click on the WPAEvents folder.
6.In the results that appear in the window on the right, locate OOBETimer.
7.Right-click on the OOBETimer entry and choose Modify from the resulting menu.
8. Change at least one digit in the Value data text box and click OK. This will deactivate Windows XP.
9. Click on Start and then Run.
10. In the text box in the Run window, type the following command and click OK.

12. When the Windows Product Activation window appears, choose Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows and then click Next.
13.Click Change Product Key.
14.Type your new, valid Windows XP product key in the New key text boxes and then click Update.
15. If you’re taken back to the previous screen and prompted, choose Remind me later.
16. Restart your PC.
