we are using class – C network i.e. 192.168.30.X . Now we are working on Oracle apps. We have connected our another unit ( C-59). Now we are required more than 250 IPs. So pl suggest me how can I subnet IPs without any change in exiting setup. I want ip series 192.168.40.X for C-59 unit and all users of this unit access our server ( 192.168.30.X ).

If you have 2 small network segments populated with no more than a handful of computers per segment, you CAN use a W2K Pro / XP Pro machine as a router between these segments.
First, you need to install at least 2 NICs on the machine.
Now you need to configure each NIC with the appropriate IP address for the segments that it's connected to.
Next, you need to configure that IP as the Default Gateway for all the computers on that NIC.
For example, if you have 2 segments (we'll call them Segment A and Segment B respectively) with the following Network IDs:
• Segment A - 192.168.0.0/24
• Segment B - 192.168.1.0/24
(/24 means 255.255.255.0 -)
and on your computer you have 2 NICs (we'll call them NIC A and NIC B respectively) with the following IP addresses:
• NIC A - 192.168.0.1
• NIC B - 192.168.1.1
Then the IP addresses of NIC A and NIC B will be the Default Gateways for segment A and B respectively.
Next, you need to configure IP Routing between the segments. As I said, this feature is not configurable via any GUI in W2K Pro and XP Pro, so you'll need to edit the registry:
1. In the Run command type Regedit.exe and press Enter.
2. In the registry navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
3. Select the "IPEnableRouter" entry (by default the value is 0) and change it's value to 1.
4. Close Regedit.
5. Reboot.
Done!

Yes ,

U can use 6 number of NIC and make a single LAN with 4 Number of PC

i.e
U have 4 pc A,B,C,D
A :- 192.168.1.1

B :- 192.168.1.1 NIC1
192.168.1.2 NIC2

C :- 192.168.1.3 NIC1
192.168.1.4 NIC2

D :- 192.168.1.5

you'll need to edit the registry:
of PC B and PC C

1. In the Run command type Regedit.exe and press Enter.
2. In the registry navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
3. Select the "IPEnableRouter" entry (by default the value is 0) and change it's value to 1.
4. Close Regedit.
5. Reboot.

But this process gives u a very high broadcast ....

Dear Paliwal ji
If u having layer 3 switch then no need to any other device , but if u have not than u need a Layer 3 device either Switch or any router...
(i) If u having L3 Switch than u can add routing table for both ADSL router , and put L3 Switch Ip adress as a Getway ip for all clients
(ii) and same for L3 Router

(iii) If u have static ip of both ADSL line than u can put a linux server as a router for this

Hiiiiiiiiii Dhiru sir,

im facing a problem here in SBI, one of our branch had three extension counters, they are runnung on LAN extenders, but now they installed routers in all three extension counters, after installing the routers their connectivity get very low and they are not able to print their passbooks and draft on their printers through bankslink software.
is it possible to that printers will work their?

the main routers ip is 10.92.18.1 and one of the counter router's ip is 10.105.46.1
and what to do to boost up their connectivity speed??

Dear Jasdev,
Pl verify that the routing table is properly configerd ,it may be possible that they are using wild routing for it .
it may be cause of slow speed and bad conectivity.
Pl send me the routing table,

Hi,

Run the following command on text mode with root privileges.

On Redhat version 8.0
Redhat-config-xfree

On Redhat version 9.0
System-config-xfree

Step2

check that mouse configuration is fine or not, you can configure mouse through setup command on text mode, after that use startx command on text mode
Or (ctl + alt + F7)

Please post your comment in specific Linux blog in future.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Shiva,

It looks like bios battery problem.
Firstly you have to change the bios battery on motherboard.

IF the problem still there after changing battery run the follwoing command carefully:-

to change the system time your have to give following command :
#date 07142157
in this command first 2 digit is for date
3 & 4 digit for date
5 & 6 for minute
7 & 8 for seconds

it will shows like this:
Sun Jul 14 21:57:00 EET DST 2007

For more detail read the following :

In suse Linux, the system time zone is determined by the symbolic link /etc/localtime. This link points to a time zone data file that describes the local time zone. The time zone data files are located at either /usr/lib/zoneinfo or /usr/share/zoneinfo depending on what distribution of Linux you use.
For example, on a SuSE system located in New Jersey the /etc/localtime link would point to /usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Eastern. On a Debian system the /etc/localtime link would point to /usr/lib/zoneinfo/US/Eastern.
If you fail to find the zoneinfo directory in either the /usr/lib or /usr/share directories, either do a find /usr -print | grep zoneinfo or consult your distribution's documentation.
What happens when you have a users located in a different timezone? A user can change his private time zone by setting the TZ environment variable. If it is unset, the system time zone is assumed. The syntax of the TZ variable is described in the tzset manual page.
The date command shows the current date and time. For example: $ date
Sun Jul 14 21:53:41 EET DST 1996
$

That time is Sunday, 14th of July, 1996, at about ten before ten at the evening, in the time zone called ``EET DST'' (which might be East European Daylight Savings Time). date can also show the universal time: $ date -u
Sun Jul 14 18:53:42 UTC 1996
$

date is also used to set the kernel's software clock: # date 07142157
Sun Jul 14 21:57:00 EET DST 1996
# date
Sun Jul 14 21:57:02 EET DST 1996
#

2...Grub file location on suse linux:

The actual configuration of GRUB is based on three files that are described below:

/boot/grub/menu.lst
This file contains all information about partitions or operating systems that can be booted with GRUB. Without this information, the system control cannot be passed to the operating system.

/boot/grub/device.map
This file translates device names from the GRUB and BIOS notation to Linux device names.

/etc/grub.conf
This file contains the parameters and options the GRUB shell needs for installing the boot loader correctly.

The file is called menu.lst. It is editable with any text editor. It is located in the /boot/grub/ directory. I would not edit this file directly unless you have really read a lot of documentation on how to boot with GRUB, because editing it is somewhat tricky. However, in SUSE 10.2 you can also edit this file more easily and effectively with YaST by going to System>Boot Loader in the menu. You can change the default to Windows if you like, and change to default time out from 30 seconds to 999 seconds if you like (in case it boots into the wrong operating system before you get to the keyboard). However, in my experience, the installation Repair tool on the SUSE 10.2 DVD does not work with GRUB (all previous versions did). If you lose GRUB in the MBR, you will have to repair it from the command-line

Thanks & Regards
